Volocopter 2X

The aircraft was designed to comply with the European Class 6 microlight helicopter rules and be employed in air taxi service in urban areas. It features 18 fixed-pitch propellers, each powered by its own electric motor. Accommodation is two-seats-in side-by-side configuration in an enclosed cockpit with a windshield.

18 quiet rotors, simple operation using a single joystick and the highest degree of reliability using superior design: The Volocopter 2X turns the vision of “flight for all” into reality. No combustion engine, no noise, no complex mechanics. Just step on board, fly off and arrive in comfort. Welcome to today’s innovative mobility concept.

Volocopte

The history of the Volocopter 2X helicopter began with the experimental Volocopter VC200, developed by the German company E-Volo GmbH (now Volocopter GmbH).

It tells wofmd.com first time this double multicopter flew in unmanned mode in autumn 2016 year, although the single prototype made VC1 manned flight in late October 2011. The second VC2 prototype flew on November 17, 2013. This flight was the beginning of the 2X story.

It all started with a drone: quite recently, remotely piloted quadcopters seemed to be recommended solely for entertainment. E-Volo went further: from a drone to a single-seat vehicle, from a single-seat to a two-seat vehicle.

The VC1, the single-seat prototype of the Volokopter, was reminiscent of the helicopters of Karman-Petrochi (1916) and Georg de Botezat (1922). Both helicopters at one time demonstrated the ability to get off the ground, but both never flew horizontally.

The first had three motors and one main rotor, the second one engine rotated four main rotor. It would seem that the VC1 with its 16 electric motors and propellers repeats not so much good as wrong decisions of the past. However, unlike those helicopters, an electronic control unit for electric motors and a helicopter appeared in the VC1 control system.

The VC200 has many interesting designs, and the multicopter has already received high awards for its innovative ideas. For example, in 2012 the VC200 won the prestigious Lindbergh Prize.

Volocopter 2X: the air taxi of the future

  • The volocopter is a combination between a giant drone and a traditional helicopter
  • The Volocopter 2X is a prototype of what is intended to be a series of passenger helicopters. Powered exclusively by electric power, the volocopter uses a VTOL (Vertical Take-Off and Landing) system, in Spanish vertical take-off and landing.
  • Although it looks like a giant drone, the Volocopter 2X is designed to be manually operated from the cockpit like traditional helicopters. However, this is a quieter, safer and easier to handle alternative.
  • Equipped with 18 rotors, this craft can land and take off vertically like any drone, while this configuration makes it move stably across the sky. In addition, having so many rotors means that even if some fail, the others will allow you to land without greater danger
  • The 2X volocopter can carry up to two people per trip, one piloting the craft using a simple joystick control. This joystick allows you to adjust not only the direction you are heading but also the glide angle and tilt of the ship.
  • As with drones, the Volocopter 2X works in conjunction with a variety of sensors and CPUs (more than 100 on board) to assist pilots while in operation: it automatically stabilizes and maintains a constant height to make flight a smooth one. pretty simple experience.
